Exclusive Mixology Class with Founding Farmers’ Chief Mixologist Jon Arroyo

535_q60_

If the words “shaken” and “straight up” remind you of how you felt and where you looked during last summer’s earthquake, today’s deal throws new meanings into the mix. Pay $45 for entry to a top-notch mixology class taught by Jon Arroyo, chief mixologist from Founding Farmers and winner of the 2011 RAMMY Award for Best Beverage/Mixology Program. Located at the gorgeous basement bar in LivingSocial’s brand-new space, 918 F Street, this cocktail class goes well beyond the basics and is offered Thursday evenings from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday evenings from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. between February 23 and March 31. You’ll learn the history, myths, variations, and evolution of some of this country’s most well-known classic cocktails, as well as how to make them. Focusing on the origination of these American contributions to the world of imbibing booze, Jon will also teach traditional techniques used by the first mixing masters, such as the correct way to make twists, measure spirits, mix a martini, and all the alt meanings of bar phraseology — so you won’t be left out on the rocks the next time your friends start talking about how they like it stirred.

$30 for $60 Worth of French-Inspired Fare and Drinks at Tapenade Bistro in Richmond

$30 for $60 Worth of French-Inspired Fare and Drinks at Tapenade Bistro in Richmond

Many Canadian bistros differentiate themselves from their European counterparts by serving region-specific dishes and replacing waiters with Alanis Morissette. Enjoy artisan cuisine without irony with today’s Groupon: for $30, you get $60 worth of French-inspired fare and drinks at Tapenade Bistro in Richmond.

Winner of a 2011 Georgia Straight Golden Plates award for Best Richmond Restaurant, Tapenade Bistro fuses a mastery of French technique with Mediterranean influences and West Coast ingredients. Dungeness crab ($15) kicks meals off on a luscious note, and a beet salad ($11) stars chickpea puree, horseradish cream, and marinated teen beets. A bed of linguine supports line-caught albacore tuna confit ($20), and a Fraser Valley duck breast ($26) silences the sounds of hunger more effectively than pressing the mute button on the nearest remote controller. The bistro’s wine list also gathers an eclectic selection of imported and local wines.

Our customers loved this deal last year, earning Tapenade Bistro a spot on Groupon’s Best of 2011 list.

$139 for Queen for a Day Package with Mani-Pedi, Facial, and Massage at Oakridge Laser & Skin Care Clinic ($285 Value)

Like an acrylic bathtub, improperly maintained skin can wind up dull, cracked, and littered with derelict rubber duckies. Make skin shine with today’s Groupon: for $139, you get a three-hour Queen for a Day package at Oakridge Laser & Skin Care Clinic (a $285 value). Queen for a Day packages include the following:

  • Manicure
  • Pedicure
  • Hydrating facial
  • Relaxation massage
  • Eyebrow shaping with threading or tweezing

The aesthetic experts at Oakridge Laser & Skin Care Clinic beautify patrons from top to tip toe with a regal Queen for a Day package that aims to soothe, groom, and rejuvenate weary bodies. Hands bask in the relaxation-inducing embrace of a hot towel before nails undergo a meticulous polish application. Once nails have been thoroughly groomed, paws wallow in a soothing soak followed by a lavish foot massage. During the hydrating facial, a skilled skin tech paints parched complexions with a cooling mask to restore moisture to skin and erases aches with a facial massage. Adroit muscle manipulators then pummel knots with a barrage of smooth kneads and flowing strokes that can promote blood circulation and banish tension. Finally, aestheticians employ threading or tweezing techniques to whisk away stray strands and sculpt sleek arches that offer the least resistance when riding your condor to work.
