Dollar Stores

Dollar Stores

Dollar Stores

In London I wouldn’t even consider going into the pound shop mostly because its just stuff you don’t need and really badly made stuff but in Vancouver its almost a way of life!

There are some really good ones and some not so good, if you really want to know I like the one in Park Royal, the 2 in Lougheed Mall are a bit crap although they have some uses and I think its because Walmart is also there. I hate succumbing to the evil Walmart but I will if I can’t find something from the dollar store. There is also Dollar Giant in Abbotsford which is the size of a supermarket. I like the names…EFAD(Everything For A Dollar), A Buck of Two, Dollarrama, Dollar Depot etc etc

I actually held a cocktail party and bought the little umbrellas, stirrers, shot measurer, magarita and martini glasses, table cloth and serviettes from less than $12, its all going to get broken anyway so why not… noone really needs to know where you got it from.

Low Cost Glasses

I was in the mall a few weeks back and I was just messing around putting on fake glasses and then I tried on my friend’s pair of glasses.. i was like WOW this is so clear! And then realised that maybe it is time for an eye test, it’s been 3 years!

Eye Tests

These are not covered by MSP in Canada and when I inquired about the cost of an eye exam in some opticians it was between $80-90. I read some reviews that said Costco and Walmart were fine so not being a Walmart fan I went to Costco and paid $70 for a 20 min eye test. The girl seemed really nice and as my brother has Glaucoma and my eye pressure test was border line high she said I should come back every 6 months for the pressure test. She told me if its to do with checking for Glaucoma the pressure test and the field test (where they check your peripheral vision) is covered by MSP so I can just drop in.

My eyes turned out to be pretty good with the exception on my left eye which was only slightly blurry and she said that I was fine for the most part but I could get glasses for driving and distances. I have never had a problem with my eyes before so as I went out to look at the frames I was shocked at the prices and didn’t care about having any designer frames.

Seeing as I didn’t need glasses for daily use I didn’t want to spend $200-600 and a friend referred me to the website Goggles4u saying that he had a good experience and it was way cheaper. I went onto the website and was pretty impressed, it was easy to navigate around, you can add your picture and see what you look like in those glasses and all the measurements are there. You can just add your prescription and there are quite a lot of frames to choose from, the price was ridiculously cheap it cost me $32 CAD and 2 weeks later I received a well packaged pair of glasses. They fit fine, the lenses seem to be right and I couldn’t believe how cheap they were as I had just heard 2 people say they spent $600 on a pair which I think is insane..think of the techie toys you can buy for that :)

As someone that doesn’t wear glasses daily and is new to eyesight deterioration I can’t really compare too much, I have had a couple of friends that can testify and to be honest at that price you can afford to just use it as a spare pair if you don’t like it. It’s also free delivery worldwide and you get a discount for a 2nd order.
